13 The Community Banker MIB News ANOTHER GREAT MIB CONVENTION T he MIB conducted its 52nd annual state convention and trade show from July 25th-27th, 2019, in Butte. Here are a few statistics and highlights from this year’s “Evel Knievel” themed convention. • 165 people attended the convention; • 18 banks were present and represented; • 19 companies and entities participated in the trade show • 21 businesses sponsored the convention In addition, our fantastic sponsors donated over $28 thousand dollars to help offset the cost of our convention – a new record for sponsorship. On behalf of MIB’s Board, I cannot thank our sponsors enough for their generosity and support. In addition, our MIB PAC auction and reception were a success. Our education presenters were well received and informative. As she does every year, Melanie Hall, Montana’s Banking Commissioner, kicked off the convention education programs. A longtime friend and favorite speaker, Patrick Barkey, the Director of UM’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research, also joined us. In addition, we were fortunate to have former Banking Commissioner, Annie Goodwin; Dan Stimpson with ICBA Securities; Jim Nowack of UBB; and Angie Murdo of Arizona as guest speakers. During the President’s dinner, we were fortunate to be joined by our honored speaker, Rebeca Romero Rainey, CEO of the ICBA. Our convention closed with a wonderful slide show and talk by Mike Patterson, CEO of the Evel Knievel museum located in Topeka, Kansas. Our 2019 young banker award recipient was Jessica Schatzka of Belt Valley Bank. The activities were a hit this year. We had our annual golf tournament at the Butte Country Club. However, in lieu of whitewater rafting, convention attendees could try their hand at trap shooting. This new event proved to be a hit. Finally, a number of attendees took full advantage of a bus tour of the “mining city,” which included an underground mine tour. Many thanks to board members Joel Rosenberg, Adam McQuiston, and Loren Brown for their efforts in organizing and hosting the golf and trap-shoot events. The convention would not have been a success without the efforts of the MIB board and staff. Terri James must be recognized for her outstanding efforts and organization skills. We also appreciate the convention support provided by Roy Caldwell, Marie Stark and Debbie Gibson. On behalf of the MIB Board, I appreciate and recognize the enthusiastic support of our sponsors, vendors, and member attendees. We give our deepest thanks to all of you who attended. And we look forward to seeing you in Billings next year for our 53rd annual convention, which will be held July 23rd through 25th at the Northern Hotel.
