This award is based on the community banking values of good citizenship, com- munity service, and sound banking skills. This award not only recognizes the impact that the candidate has in his or her business each day, but also the difference he or shemakes by investing in their community. Eligible candidates are under 35 years of age andwork for aMIBmember bank. The winner receives free convention registration and three nights lodging at the 2018MIB Annual Convention, $100 in travel expenses, an honor plaque to display in his or her office, and prominent mention in theMIB magazine andwebsite. 2018 Young Banker Award winner Colter Cumin may be the most impressive winner of the award yet. Colter presently serves as the CEO/Chairman of First Security Bank of Deer Lodge which recently consummated an ownership transition. Colter led a group of investors to purchase the bank from its long-time majority shareholder. Colter also worked with various regulatory bod- ies to receive all the requisite approvals for the bank buyout. In his application for the award, Colter wrote that he believes that the smart allocation of credit has an exceptional impact on a local community. As a loan officer of a community bank, Colter says he gets to share in the success of local businesses and individuals to accom- plish their God-given potential. While frustrating at times, Colter notes that the work of a banker is incredibly important in the difference made and impact on local businesses and individuals. Colter’s community service work includes his duties as President of the Deer Lodge Rotary Club, The Rotary Club does various community service projects like renovating grandstands at the Powell County Fairgrounds, putting together a school talent show, etc. Colter also serves as Secretary and Board Member of the Deer Lodge Medical Foundation. This position allows Colter to assist and organize various events like an annual golf tournament, health awareness run, banquet/ auction, etc. throughout the year which raise money and awareness for the foundation of the local hospital. Tom Christnacht, President of First Security Bank of Deer Lodge, wrote the following in support of Colter’s application. “Colter is the perfect example of a community banker.” “He has excellent credit skills and has a great work ethic.” He has truly invested in small community banking.
