8 The Community Banker www.mibonline.org THE STOCKMAN DIFFERENCE Featured Member Bank A t Stockman Bank, we believe tradition, western values and an entrepreneurial spirit are the keys to personal and business success in Montana. Our roots run deep in this great state, dat- ing back 65 years when our founder, Bill Nefsy, purchased controlling interest in the Miles City Bank. Today, Stockman Bank is Montana’s larg- est, private, family-owned community bank, operating 34 branches across the state with a fierce commitment to community and to local management and decision making. Stockman strives to be the place where people want to bank and want to work. The foundation of Stockman rests on a team of dedicat- ed employees who are empowered to do what is in the best interest of our customers. We ensure our employees have the best in comprehen- sive benefits, as well as opportunities for professional growth. This commitment allows us to put the customer first, fulfilling Bill’s mission to serve the needs of all Montanans of every walk of life and in every area of their financial lives. Over the years, the financial needs of customers grew and changed, with many desiring a way to plan for their future. Recognizing this need, Stockman evolved to provide a full suite of financial services including financial and retirement planning, as well as investment and consulting services. Wealth management first became part of our vision in 1987 when Investment Management Group (IMG) of Livingston, Montana was established. Its mission was to help community banks throughout the country manage and invest their fixed income funds in a prudent manner. Stockman Bank was one of IMG’s clients. It soon became clear that IMG’s owner and employees were cut from the same cloth as Bill Nefsy. Their philosophies of a western work ethic and placing custom- er needs first went hand-in-hand with that of Stockman Bank. Through the 1990’s, many family-owned community banks were acquired by large bank systems. IMG began to help these institutions, their employees, shareholders and families invest their funds. In 2002, Stockman Financial Corp. purchased IMG and created Stockman Asset Management (SAM), which combined IMG and the investment activ- ities of Stockman Financial Corp. From inception through year-end 2017, assets under management increased to $2.97 billion. In 2017, SAM officially changed its name to Stockman Wealth Management to reflect the increase in services now provided. Through our team of local, experienced portfolio managers, Stock- manWealth Management brings a level of financial expertise and ser- vice we believe has made us a valued and trusted partner. This expertise allows us to help individual and business customers to create and follow a personalized financial road map, designed to meet financial goals and grow long-term wealth while minimizing risk and preserv- ing capital. This is achieved through a wide variety of services including conservative investment management, individual and employer retire- ment planning, estate, insurance, tax, and education planning. In 1993, to address the insurance needs of our customers, Stockman Insurance was created. Whether it is Agribusiness, Commercial, or Per- sonal Insurance, Stockman’s team of specialized agents meet specific insurance needs with personalized, professional customer service. Stockman’s banking, wealth management and insurance services have been carefully crafted into a suite of comprehensive financial ser- vices to ensure that Bill Nefsy’s vision to serve the needs of the entire community is upheld. Simply put, it's about Montana, and the people who live here. SAM/IMG/SWM is/was a Registered Investment Advisor.
