Pub. 5 2017 Issue 3

15 Fall 2017 The Community Banker October 26, 2017 Dear Mr. Brown, Thank you for contacting me about tax reform. I appreciate your thoughts on this issue. On September 28, 2017, President Trump and Congressional Repub- lican leaders released their blueprint for tax reform. The plan would let hard-working families keep more of what they earn by cutting rates, closing loopholes, and letting most people file their taxes on a post- card. This plan will create a “zero tax bracket” by doubling the standard deduction and eliminating tax on the first $24,000 of income earned by a married couple and $12,000 for individuals. It would the end the marriage penalty for the Child Tax Credit and lower rates for small businesses. Finally, there would be a complete repeal of the death tax, allowing families to pass on their farms, ranches, and businesses without a crippling tax bill. Our tax code is far too burdensome and complicated. I support real tax reform to make the tax code fairer, flatter and simpler for Montan- ans. It should promote growth and stability rather than confusion and special interest deals. Tax reform done right will grow our economy, create jobs, and let people keep more of their money. As we work through tax reform, I will be sure be sure to keep your thoughts in mind. Thank you again for contacting me. Hearing from other Montanans allows me to better understand your perspective. As your represen- tative in Congress, I will continue to rely on your views to serve as a strong voice for Montana.
