13 Winter 2016 The Community Banker crested it! The elk were just over a small knoll and down below. As we crawled to the edge to look over, the bull stood broadside. I lay across my pack and steadied my father-in-law’s Winchester 264. As I found the elk in my crosshairs, I squeezed the trigger. He recoiled from the shot and stood there for a few minutes. Soon he turned slowly and headed for the tree line and I squeezed another round off. It seemed like an eternity, but soon after I could hear crashing through the trees as he went down. It was my first bull elk and he was a very nice 6x6. What a rush! To be able to share it with my guys was a wonderful experience, and it made for a great picture. We ended the season with my 6x6 bull elk and a 5x5 white tail buck, our buddy Jim’s 6x6 bull elk, Alan’s 5x5 mule deer, and our son Stratton’s 7x8 mule deer buck. It was a season to remember for sure!
