In 2002, the bank completed a massive restoration to return the Victorian-era Romanesque building to its original condition. The original First State Bank of Libby. The historic Montgomery Ward building in Missoula, currently the home of First Montana Bank’s Corporate headquarters was built in 1935. In 2005, the Bank underwent a renovation and restoration to return the building to its original appearance. F irst Montana Bank was founded in 1913 in the small northwest town of Libby, Montana by a group of community-minded share- holders who saw the need to promote economic growth and serve the citizens of Lincoln County. First Montana Bank opened for business May 15, 1913 in Libby, Montana as First State Bank of Libby. The Bank’s first home was a 15x20 foot frame building covered by corrugat- ed iron located at the corner of Mineral Avenue and Fourth Street. On February 15, 1953, the Bank was moved into a new building at the corner of Mineral Avenue and Fifth Street where our current branch still stands today. The first report of the First State Bank of Libby was June 4, 1913, at which time total deposits were $10,104, capital totaled $20,167, and loans totaled $11,392. The spirit of our founders has persevered throughout changes in our economy, and today First Mon- tana Bank has grown to seven western Montana markets with assets in excess of $280 million. A key component to the growth of First Montana Bank over the last 102 years has been our commitment to serve our communities as a community bank. The treasured heritage we celebrate was built on com- munity service. This is recog- nized by our designation of an outstanding rating under the Community Reinvestment Act by federal regulators for over 10 years and running. We believe only about 5% of banks nation- wide earn this designation and we are very proud of this valida- tion of our commitment to the communities we serve.
