I t was great to see many of you from around the state enjoying the sunshine and beautiful Gaylord Palms Resort. I particularly enjoyed the expan- sive domed interior, complete with waterfalls, a flowing stream with fish, rock outcroppings and wooden bridges. I am quite sure those who attended with youngsters enjoyed this venue, along with the many tourist attractions and the luxurious pool systems. But even more enjoyable were the many informative and interested sessions, which covered too many topics to mention. Suffice it to say that the sessions on mergers and acquisitions and navigating all the recent regulatory reform were well-attended by bankers. Keynote speakers included Da- vid Gregory and Cal Ripken, Jr.— both very entertaining and fun! The Montana Reception was well-attended and once again, Jim Brown and Laura Welker did a fantastic job preparing and organizing the event. Com- ments from those who attended were all extremely positive and the consensus was that Gay- lord Palms was a fantastic (but expensive!) venue. Just around the corner is the 2015 ICBA Washington Policy Summit, held April 28-29, 2015. Several of us from the MIB will be attending again, with the primary purpose of visiting with Senator Steve Daines, Senator Jon Tester, and Congressman Ryan Zinke to discuss various hot topics in banking. ICBA also hosts workshops by senators and representatives from key financial committees and top leaders from the FDIC, CFPB, and OCC. These trips are very infor- mative also a reality check— nothing gets accomplished in Washington very quickly or eas- ily. But I encourage you to join us and let your voice be heard to push for change. Finally, I look forward to finishing up my second term as MIB president at our annual convention in Big Sky on July 16-18, 2015. It has been a great two years working with Mon- tana’s community banks. Don’t forget to register soon for the convention! You can sign up on our website at any time. We’re continuing the energy from last year, with our best lineup of speakers and workshop presenters yet. These include Dr. Tom Parliment of Parliment Consulting Services, Jim Nowak of United Bankers’ Bank, Jack Hartings, ICBA Chairman, Mon- tana Senator Steve Daines, Mel- anie Hall, Montana Commis- sioner of Banking, Pat Barkey of the University of Montana, Eric Jensen and Chris Thomas of Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle, and Angela Murdo and Mike Tobiason of Anderson Zu- rMuehlen. Big Sky Resort offers an unbelievable amount of fami- ly-friendly outdoor activities, and of course we will be offering our annual golf tournament and whitewater rafting adventure again this year. I hope to see you in Big Sky in July! Kenny Martin is President of MIB 2013-2015, President/CEO of First Bank of Lincoln, and Montana Market Manager for Citizens Alliance Bank in Seeley Lake
